According to Microsoft, the incident has led to a delay in data transmission to users, with traffic through the Middle East. The group has redirected information streams on replacement routes to avoid completely breaking in the connection, but there is still a higher ping.

The incident is not single. Last weekend, similar issues were recorded in the UAE, India and Pakistan. According to local internet providers, cable damage occurs in Dzhidda, Saudi Arabia. The causes of the origin have not been set. Theoretically, cable, is the global Internet circulatory system, which can be affected by ships. However, history also knows examples of sabotage that are targeted, especially in difficult areas.
Directly affecting Russian and business users this time turns out to be minimal. Microsoft clearly pointed out that traffic, not going through the Middle East, not injured. Because the main highways connect Russia to world data centers running along other routes (through the Atlantic and European), there is no mass defeat.
However, the incident shows a serious and more systematic problem of the gap of the global internet infrastructure. It serves as a typical example for the entire Russian IT field, which actively uses cloud services, including foreign services. This case is another argument that is beneficial for the development of national cloud infrastructure and cloud communication systems with foreign highways. The more such incidents in the world, the more attractive Russian companies, the idea will look like storing data and working with capacity and initial architecture built in Russia.
