Seagate has started the limited sources of 40-A-AB-BERM hard drives, becoming the first company to provide a volume as part of the new Mozaic platform with HAMR technology support (recorded from heat).
Each drive contains 10 sheets of 4 TB. So far, it is only about technical samples, but mass production begins in the first half of 2026 after checking the level from customers.
HAMR technology allows you to achieve high recording density, which is very important for data centers. Seagate is expected to issue a disc over 44 TB (in 2027) and 50 TB (in 2028) in the future.
Competitors in other ways: Western Digital develops EPMR and Optinand and releases Hamr disks later, and Toshiba based on MAMR. So far, no one except Seagate has exceeded 30 TB.
40 TB is not about household users. These disks focus on cloud storage, AI and companies, of which the maximum container is very important for the minimum area.
