On Saturday, China began to build a huge hydroelectric power plant on the Tibetan Highlands on the Yarlung-Tsangpo River. This has been reported by Interfax, referring to the publication of Western media.
According to the calculations of China Electricity Construction Company, the hydroelectric power plant will be able to produce 300 billion km of electricity every year. Its cost is estimated to be $ 167.1 billion. The media noted that at the end of the construction, this facility has a large scale that can pass the largest hydroelectric power plant, three canyons in Duong Tu River in Hubei province.
Yarlung-Tsangpo is one of the largest rivers in South Asia, it also flows through India and Bangladesh and flows into the gang. In India, she is called Brahmaputra, in Bangladesh – Jamun.
In January, the Indian government expressed concerns about this project of the Chinese side and called on Beijing to ensure the lack of harm to the population living in the river. In Delhi, they promised to protect the interests of India. In return, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that hydroelectric power plants will not have a negative impact on areas located downstream.
