In Tibet, China is building the largest on the planet of hydropower plants for trillions of yuan

On July 19, in China, the construction of the largest hydroelectric power plant on Blahmaputra is called Brahmaputra, the largest hydroelectric power plant on the Yarlung Zangpot River, writing The Guardian. This river is not chosen by chosen – it is considered the largest river in the world.

In Tibet, China is building the largest on the planet of hydropower plants for trillions of yuan

The project is located in Nyingchi regarding the construction of five layered hydroelectric stations: It is here, the river down to 2000 meters in 50 km.

The construction is estimated to be 1.2 trillion yuan (about 168 billion USD). The project is participating in China Yajiang Group Co., Ltd., a state -owned enterprise that is created special for this purpose.

According to the forecast, the dam will be generated 300 billion kilowatt now (KW ยท h) each year, three times higher than the capacity of “three Gorges”, Reuters calculated.

The construction of Yarlung Tsangbo hydroelectric plant was officially approved by the Chinese government in December 2024. The official launch of the project took place during the visit of Chinese Prime Minister Lee Qian to Nyingchi. The Prime Minister called the construction of Yangpo Yarlung “the century project”.

Most electricity types produced by hydroelectric plants will be transferred to other areas of China, as well as partially meeting the local needs for Tibet, the guard wrote.

The project initially caused fear among countries in downstream, such as India and Bangladesh, related to water security. However, not all Indian experts share these fears. Dr. Nirandjan Ghosh, Vice President of Development in the field of Development and Economy in the natural resources of the Indian Research Fund, note that the main water in Brahmaputra is the branches of India, and the drainage rate from China is small.

According to his data, the annual Brahmaputra line is registered at the slave hydrological station in China, only 31.2 billion cubic meters, while the annual flow, measured at Panda Hydrology Station in India, reaching 494 billion cubic meters.

That is, water from China has only about 6.3% of the total water flow in India. The Indian Minister of the Assam of Bisma Sarma also said that he did not care, because most of his areas from Butan and neighboring countries Arunal-Pradesh.

In response to concerns, expressed in India and Bangladesh, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has repeatedly stated that the construction of hydropower power plants in the lower region of Brahmaputra aims to accelerate the development of environmentally friendly energy, improving the living conditions of local population.

The Chinese side stated that it will strictly comply with the highest standards, to perform technical control and environmental protection of the environment, as well as maintain the ecosystem as much as possible. In addition, the Chinese side ensures that the project will not have a negative impact on areas in downstream, and to a certain extent will help prevent natural disasters and minimize their consequences.

China emphasized that he has established cooperation with countries in the lower regions of Zangpo Yangpo Yarlung in the field of hydrological reports on floods, prevents floods and reduces the risk of natural disasters.

China is a world leader in the field of hydropower. The energy of rivers is the second largest source of energy after coal for the country, according to the International Hydroelectric Association. And new records are constantly established.

In August 2024, Fennine accumulated power plant was delegated in China – the largest in the world, with 3.6 GW power. Now there are 12 turbines.

The installed power of hydroelectric power stations in China in 2021 was up to 391 GW, and by the end of the past, it increased to 436 GW.

There are 94 thousand dams in the country – more than any other country in the world. Because fossil fuel reserves are not enough in China and the desire to be independent of the Government's energy, hydroelectricity plays an important role in the country's energy policy. Currently, the hydroelectric power plant provides about 20% of the total output in China.
