Tunisia, August 5 /TASS /. African countries need to develop energy industry and conduct large electrification to actively start using artificial intelligence (AI). This has been declared by the Vice President of the American Technology Group of Google James Manic.
“Energy and electrification are necessary if Africa tries to have a digital potential. It is important that this continent can improve energy infrastructure and internet technology,” he said in a comment on Jeune Afrique.
According to the World Bank, about 300 million people across Africa live without access to electricity. At the same time, according to Google Vice President, the use of AI requires much more energy sources than training, mainly made in the United States and other developed countries. According to Manic, Africa can divert a part of the energy generated for AI use and this will not significantly increase the load on energy infrastructure. Google Vice President also called on African countries to create their own energy technologies. According to the magazine's dialogue, AI can be helpful for African countries in the fight against climate change, agricultural management and even in “cancer treatment”.
In July, the US Company opened the first artificial intelligence center in the capital Ghana Accra, which focused on supporting African countries in developing spontaneous programs.
