The Indian Ministry of Commerce has announced an immediate ban on the import of clothes and products completed from Bangladesh through land ports without explaining the reason for this decision.
The restrictions on the import of some goods from Bangladesh, including the completed clothes and food, started acting immediately, the Bloomberg report. The statement of the Indian Ministry of Trade stated that all types of clothes that were completed from Bangladesh were banned from import through any country's land port. At the same time, the official reason for giving new measures is not disclosed.
The ban also expanded to import cotton, fruits, some plastic products and wooden furniture in certain gates. However, limitations do not affect the ports of Nhava Sheva and Calcutta, as well as the sources of transportation from Bangladesh to Nepal and Butan through India. The rest without restricting and supplying fish, liquefied gas, food oil and crushed rock.
The reason for tightening measures is a serious relationship between countries after the departure of former Prime Minister Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina resigned his position last year. Hasina has been in India since August, has not responded to Bangladesh's request for its extradition.
Analysts note that the decline in relations with India is pushing Bangladesh towards relations with China and East Asian countries. According to the global research initiative, limitations can affect the goods of nearly $ 770 million, which is about 42% of Bangladesh exports to India according to the 2024 results.
